Frozen embryo transfer

A frozen embryo transfer (FET) is a cycle where a frozen embryo from a previous fresh IVF cycle is thawed and transferred back into a woman's uterus. This means that you won't have to undergo another cycle of hormone stimulation and an egg collection anymore. Frozen embryo cycles can be undertaken on your natural cycle or using hormone preparation, or ovulation induction. It may be possible to create multiple embryos during the IVF cycle. It is usually advisable to transfer one  and freeze the other. This is due to the serious risks associated with multiple pregnancies when transplanting multiple embryos at the same time. If you choose to use  frozen embryos, the frozen embryo transfer cycle will be eligible for a Medicare discount and you can see your estimated  cost on the IVF Treatment Costs page. Keep in mind that freezing and storage of embryos is also expensive.
